When announced, the MG Magnette was very unique in the market place, as mid sized sporting saloons were as yet not fashionable. Designed by Gerald Palmer of Jowett Javelin and Riley Pathfinder fame, the Magnette ZA first appeared in 1953, although sales did not commence until 1954. Today there is much to commend them to Classic car buyers, not least of all is the fact that when you arrive at a show in one, the chances are you will be the only one present.
This 1957 Magnette ZB was recently recommissioned by a well known Classic Engineering company after being stored in a dry garage for same 20 years. The work carried out included the removal of the engine to fit a new flywheel ring gear and new clutch. Further work included replacing all core plugs and gaskets. The SU carburettors were rebuilt, fitting of new distributor with electronic ignition, new HT leads, new spark plugs, all water hoses replaced, spin on oil filter, replace exhaust manifold, fitting of new stainless steel exhaust system, new fan belt, new brake master cylinder, new brake slave cylinders, new brake flexis, inner suspension bushes, new shock absorbers, new radial tyres on newly powder coated steel wheels, heater control ,anti freeze, Millers engine and gear oil, rear gearbox oil seal and much more.
Even though it is not compulsory for a car of this age the car was given a new MOT, just as a precaution after such a long time in storage.
All this work cost in excess of £4000.
Part exchange welcome, ancient or modern, funds either way.
