1960 AUSTIN HEALEY FROGEYE SPRITE. TOTAL REBUILD

May 1958 BMC made a highly immodest announcement. ''Today the Austin Motor Company makes motoring history with the announcement of a completely new small and inexpensive sports car''.

The Frogeye Sprite promised full size performance but was small enough for a young man to keep in his Dad's bike shed. At the same moment an advertising video featuring the great Roy Salvadori and up an coming TV Motor Sports commentator John Bolster at the home of British Motor Sport, Silverstone, had thousands of potential customers reaching for their cheque books, cravats and flat caps.

According to the British Motor Heritage Certificate this leaf green Frogeye Sprite was built at the Abingdon plant in March 1960. The car was built as a Left Hand Drive version for the Germany Market. The car was then purchased new by an American serviceman who took it back to California USA. The last owner purchased the car in the UK in 1997. He then proceeded on a complete rebuild as a retirement project, during which time the car was converted to RHD. His remit was to produce a car to the exact specification that it left the factory in 1960, which included a correct 948cc engine and front drum brakes etc.
The car was completed in 2015 and has covered less than 500 miles since. The finished car was featured in an article in the Midget and Sprite owners club magazine in September 2016, a copy of which we have in the car's history file.
The car is now ready to enjoy but will need a period of running in, as the car for all intents and purposes is brand new.

Part exchange welcome, ancient or modern, funds either way.
