Launched as amore luxurious version of the highley successful Mini, the Wolseley Hornet and Riley Elf had slightly longer finned rear wings and a larger boot. The redesigned front end gave the cars a more traditional design. The name Wolseley Hornet was first used on a 1930s Sportscar. The central speedo and auxiliary gauges were surrounded with wood veneer. Leather seats, thick carpets and chrome gearlever added to the luxury feel.
The quite amazing 1966 Mark 2 version we offer here has the later 998cc engine and hydrolastic suspension. The Hornet was first supplied by BMC dealer Charles Clarke of Wolverhampton to a family from Rugeley and was then purchased by the last owner in 1981 who then kept the car for the next 42 years.Which makes the car effectivly a two owner car. The car has lived in the Staffordshire area all of its life.
The car has appeared at many shows including the NEC Classic car show and is well known in the Wolseley club. The Hornet also appeared on the BBCs Top Gear programme. It also took part in a film called 'Soul Boy' in August 2010, a CD of the film is in the history file of the car.Furthermore the car has featured in two magazines, the copies of both are also in the history file. The file also contains a BMC Heritage certificate, many invoices for work carried out by the last owner and a large amount old MOTs.
This is not an over restored car but a totally original Wolseley Hornet ready to show.I assure you the car will not dissappoint.
