1960 MGA 1600 Coupé – UK RHD – Five-Speed Gearbox – Superb Restored Example
For those who desire all the style, character and driving pleasure of a classic British sports car, but with the added refinement and practicality of a fixed roof, the highly desirable MGA 1600 Coupé is a compelling choice. In our opinion, it also represents excellent value when compared with its Roadster counterpart.

The superb example we are delighted to offer here is an original UK-market, right-hand-drive car, first registered in Coventry on 1st May 1960.

Purchased by a previous owner in rather poor condition, the MGA was entrusted to the highly respected MG restorer Colin Groom of Devon, with instructions to carry out a complete ground-up restoration regardless of cost. The resulting rebuild cost well in excess of £25,000 and was completed in 2009. Importantly, the comprehensive history file contains an extensive photographic record documenting the restoration from start to finish.

Since completion, the car has covered just 8,000 miles.

This is the third time we have had the pleasure of handling this particular MGA, and it is therefore a car we know extremely well. Its last owner, a retired Rolls-Royce engineer and something of a perfectionist, maintained the car with exceptional care during his three-year ownership. The extensive service and maintenance records within the history file clearly demonstrate the attention lavished upon it.

On the road, this MGA is further enhanced by the fitment of a five-speed gearbox, a modification which completely transforms the driving experience. It allows for more relaxed cruising, particularly on longer journeys and modern roads, without detracting from the essential character of the car.

Further desirable upgrades and period-style accessories include electronic ignition, stainless-steel exhaust system, oil cooler, thermostatically controlled electric cooling fan, chrome badge bar, chrome luggage rack, racing-style wing mirrors and a battery isolation/kill switch.

The car is accompanied by a substantial history file, extensive photographic restoration record and a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate.

With its elegant fixed-head Coupé styling, original UK right-hand-drive credentials, beautifully documented restoration and carefully considered upgrades, this is a particularly attractive example of one of MG’s most handsome post-war sports cars.
